5 Ways to Get More Instagram Followers

Over one billion people access Instagram every month. This makes it the ultimate platform to build your brand and attract your target audience, especially if your marketing strategy relies heavily on visual content.  Although, here’s the thing — you may spend hours brainstorming and publishing great content on your Instagram account but unless you have followers engaging with it, all your efforts may go in vain. And there’s no way to sugarcoat this — getting a substantial number of followers on Instagram is no cakewalk.

When you have more followers, you get more opportunities to interact with the audience and drive traffic to your website or blog. Eventually, you can create a community of loyal followers who can help increase revenue and maximize your sales

You also need to get real followers because the Instagram algorithm is prompt at identifying accounts with fake followers and removing them. Moreover, given that fake followers cannot provide authentic engagement, buying such Instagram followers will not do you any favors in the long run.

Luckily, there are a few things you can do right away to get more followers organically and outrank the competition:

  1. Use the right hashtags

Hashtags make your content easily searchable and expose your posts to a wider set of audiences to discover more potential customers. The Search and Explore’ tab on Instagram is the perfect way to find trending hashtags that you can add to your posts.

Try to target hashtags that the potential audience is more likely to look for so that it becomes easier for them to discover your content. Hashtags that have been used in 100,000 to 500,000 posts are extremely popular. You must use more of them. You can combine them with brand or campaign-specific hashtags for best results. Keep track of the hashtags as the trending hashtags keep changing.

You can include up to 30 hashtags per post but be careful about picking effective hashtags. Avoid clickbaity ones such as #likeforlike, #tagsforlikes, or #followme. Also, don’t add all the hashtags in the caption. You can always add a few in the comments. This will maximize the performance of the post and also makes it easier for the target audience to locate you.

  1. Pay attention to the captions

It’s no secret that aesthetically pleasing posts grab the eyeballs on Instagram. But captions can be a gamechanger, too, given that the audience is keen to know more about the person behind the post. So don’t think of captions as a lazy last-minute addition. Captions can add relevant context to your post, bring out your personality, and get you more reach and engagement.

Spend some time crafting the right caption that captures the essence of your post. Make sure that the first few words of your caption are powerful enough to tempt the audience to hit “more.” The writing style of the caption should also match the style of your IG account’s bio.

Experiment with the length of the caption as Instagram allows captions up to 2,200 characters. Given that average caption, length has more than doubled since 2016, don’t shy away from adding detailed captions and try out some in-depth storytelling to complement the post.

For instance, take this post by Will from @goingawesomeplaces. He is known for posting amazing travel photos with detailed captions, narrating the story behind the shot. In this post, he shared how he decided to get a shot of the spectacular viewpoint of Half Dome and aerial vies of Yosemite Valley below.

  1. Collaborate with micro-influencers

Budget constraints might make working with A-list influencers a pipe dream. But that’s no reason for despair — collaborating with micro-influencers can still help you get noticed and increase your follower count.

Micro-influencers have between 10K and 100K followers and provide perfect reach and engagement. It’s best to target influencers in your niche or industry to get the right kind of accounts following you. Also, make sure that the content your influencers share is authentic and relatable so that the audience is naturally drawn towards it.

  1. Post Reels

Instagram Reels are currently the “it” thing on the platform. These 30-second video clips with music have set Instagram on fire, and the algorithm loves to boost them too.  The best thing about Reels is that you can get as creative as you want. Moreover, since Reels is still a new feature on the platform, the entry barrier is low, and the chances of a well-made reel going viral are incredibly high.

  1. Consider Instagram Advertising

Promoting posts through Instagram Advertising is an excellent way to tap into a new audience base. You can get your content easily noticed by those otherwise not going to come across them organically. Plus, Instagram advertising is completely legitimate to target your audience based on their location, interests, and demographics. You can also identify new followers with the help of a lookalike audience based on those who already interact with your account.

There are different options for running ads on Instagram, such as carousel ads, newsfeed ads,  story ads, shopping ads, reel ads, and boosted ads. Based on your goal, you can identify the best ad type and formulate an advertising strategy.
